Day 38: August 10th, 2010

I'm starting to think about sleep training now that Paige is getting closer to the appropriate age for it. Ever since she was a newborn, she was a good sleeper. I think they say sleeping through the night technically is like, 5-6 hours? And she's always done that, but my dream here is to get her back into sleeping 10-12 hours. When she sleeps like that, all 3 of us are more well-rested and happier.

I've read up on a few of the techniques. I know a lot of people have had success with cry it out but I think that kind of method only works with certain types of babies. I read some article about how for some babies, crying is a release of energy and it will help them calm down, so I can see how cry it out would work. But Paige gets so amped up when she cries that it's just not going to stop until she gets what she wants. I've tried letting her go for 5-7 minutes before, coming in to rub her tummy and shush her and let her know I'm there, but she just kept screaming until it got to the point where she was so worked up she had tears running down her face and she was silently screaming. It broke my heart to see her like that so I haven't tried again.

Last night I tried to let her fuss it out at 2 am. She was just softly whining in her crib so I gave it 3 minutes and she quieted down. About 15 minutes later, she started up again a little louder so I gave her the pacifier and she slept for about 30 more minutes. Then I wake up to the monitor as she is in there babbling and giggling to herself, which is too cute to be annoying even at 3 am so I went in there, changed her and fed her, and she slept until 7 (probably would have went longer but I woke her up by accident).

I know it's probably not the right time to try anything now since she's in her 4 month wakeful but if anyone has any tips or tricks I am open to anything!

Today's boring at home pictures. The weather has been so gross for the past month or so but it's been getting better lately, hopefully I'll be able to get more outdoor pictures! I hate being cooped up inside!

Patiently (ha!) waiting for lunch:

She loves getting her diaper changed. She's so cute I just wish I could video it to show how funny she is... but I won't, because that's creepy.

I think I've talked before about Paige's "I'm tired" cues. She lets out a single high pitched scream at the top of her lungs, grabs you in for a huge hug, and then buries her face in your neck and rubs it. Then she'll repeat as long as necessary until you swaddle her and put her in her crib. Once again, too cute to be annoying! Here she is, mid-scream and going in for the hug.
